I decided to start this blog when Nick Cave Fixes closed in November 2010. Then Nick Cave Fixes started again and, well, I’d got going anyway. The intention was/is to post news items, images, videos etc that I find interesting and would like to have assembled in the one place. I’m also intending to formally review new books on Nick Cave. My sources are mostly ‘google alerts’ but I also have a network of friends who put items my way.
If anyone is interested, I started following Nick Cave in 1991. I first saw the Bad Seeds perform at the Big Day Out in Sydney in 1993, but it wasn’t until 1996/7 that I became completely hooked.
Who am I? Well, ever since people started asking me ‘what I wanted to do with my life’ (ie. when I was about 15), all I could answer was that I wanted to read, write, watch films and listen to music. This (lack of) direction led me into an Arts Degree majoring in English, then into a Masters and PhD. Casual academic work happily fell my way for a number of years: during this time I gave and published a handful of papers, most of which I am quite proud of. Out of one of these grew a book, Cultural Seeds: Essays on the Work of Nick Cave, which I co-edited with Tanya Dalziell. Currently I am working as an English and Literature teacher in a Melbourne secondary school.
Dear fellow Nick Cave fan – We need your help!
We are currently making a short film using music by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. The film is called ‘The Outing’, and in short the film it is the result of what happens, when two artists cross swords, that is, when Nick Cave’s soundtrack, Hallelujah, is mixed with real film and the unique doll animations of sculptor Helene Kjeldsen.
In a few days we’ll launch our film project on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com and by that time we will need as many supporters, followers and funders as possible.
Will you please help us and share this link for our film project on your site?? https://www.facebook.com/theouting
It would mean the world to us! And if you have any further questions, you’re more than welcome to contact us.
Looking forward to your answer!
Best regards
Julie
